Surface performance insights
by day 90

Talent Signal reviews the first 90 days of work product for new hires in engineering, support, and sales roles to generate a “performance signal” for each employee.

DETAILED REPORTS

Cite specific examples in your feedback

Talent Signal supports employee coaching by linking managers directly to work product examples in Github, Salesforce, or Zendesk. It surfaces useful work examples as inputs to conversations.

Consistent evaluation

See employees for their work

With Talent Signal, employees have an opportunity to be seen for their contributions, rather than how they're perceived. By giving a standardized input to new hire coaching, it forces managers to work from the facts.

Built different

The difference is in your data

Only Rippling’s data model understands your workforce the way you do. It captures key employee attributes like role, tenure, work location, and output. With this unified data model, we’re able to power Talent Signal—the first talent analytics tool of its kind.

FAQs

Which types of roles does Talent Signal currently support?

Talent Signal currently supports individuals in software engineering and customer support. Support for sales roles is coming soon.

What data does Talent Signal use to produce its performance signals?

There are two categories of data sources Talent Signal uses:

  • Work output. For software engineers, this is the code they write, while for customer support, this is all of their customer interactions.
  • HRIS data. This includes the employee’s job level, start date, and work location, sourced from the data in Rippling’s HRIS. It excludes any demographics or sensitive data categories like race, ethnicity, age, gender, or health data.

Which third-party app connections do we need to enable to use Talent Signal?

Currently, Talent Signal requires data source connections with Github for software engineering roles, and Salesforce or Zendesk for customer support roles. Rippling will guide company admins to configure and enable these connections when they first onboard to Talent Signal.

How long does Rippling retain data ingested from third-party app data sources?

We retain the data for as long as the customer uses Talent Signal. We will delete this data within 30 days after you disable Talent Signal.

How is the Talent Signal AI model trained?

Today, the model is trained on thousands of employees across the software engineering and customer support role personas. The Talent Signal model continues to get better with time as it trains on the work product of more and more employees. Rippling does not train on data from its customers that do not use Talent Signal.

How often does Talent Signal generate performance signals and reports?

During the setup process for Talent Signal in your company, Rippling will gather data and generate reports with respect to all (including any previously terminated) employees in roles that Talent Signal supports based on their first 90 days in your organization. Subsequently, we will gather data and generate reports with respect to each new employee at the end of their first 90 days of employment.

Can we use Talent Signal to generate performance signals and reports after the first 90 days?

No. Talent Signal generates a single performance signal for employees 90 days after they've started work.

Does Talent Signal’s output automatically feed into any workflows in Rippling?

The performance signals and reports produced by Talent Signal are intended to support managers and other leaders in existing human resources processes. It does not replace human decision-making.

How does Rippling protect the security of the data it uses specifically for Talent Signal?

Our product security, infrastructure security, corporate security, and 24x7 detection and response teams already work to protect very sensitive customer data every day. Specifically, we are certified against ISO 27001 and ISO 27018, leveraging ISO’s risk framework to manage security risk across all products. Additionally, the platform itself also undergoes annual SOC 1, SOC 2, and CSA STAR 3rd party audits. These audits test our compliance with foundational security areas including access management, data security, secure development, logging and monitoring.

Further, our data infrastructure is designed to meet ISO 42001 requirements, and we expect to obtain certification in early 2025.

You can find more information about Rippling’s Security program here.

How does Rippling control access to our source code by Rippling employees?

Access to any stored source code is tightly controlled. Our infrastructure has been purposely built using infrastructure as code best practices, meaning it is managed by code, not by people. This removes the need to manually make changes, reducing access and making the environment more secure.

Production changes are only deployed after approval via our build system. This means changes are reviewed and approved through a specific process, and once approved, the changes are automatically applied by the system without further manual intervention.

Lastly, only a very small group of engineers, specifically those who work on Talent Signal, are allowed to access the environment where your code is stored. Their access is monitored and reviewed by our Security Team.

Are you using any third-party vendors for the core model?

Yes, we use foundational models from OpenAI and Anthropic. Both of these third-parties are contractually prohibited from using any inputs and outputs to train their underlying foundation models.

Will you share Talent Signal’s outputs with any third party?

No. We generate performance signals and reports solely for our customers’ own use.

Disclaimer: The performance signals and explanations produced by Talent Signal are intended to support managers and other leaders in existing human resources processes. It does not replace human decision-making.
