Expert says payroll will be “key sector for innovation” in 2025
With the holidays quickly approaching and fewer than three weeks left in the year (but who’s counting?), many are starting to roll out their 2025 predictions.
Analysts observing the world of business software are no different. At Constellation Research, Analyst Holger Mueller said in a recent blog post that “payroll will become a key sector for innovation.“ He also said we would see significant changes in Human Capital Management, and that “applications will become more intuitive.”
Human capital management will see significant changes. On the people front, employees and gig workers can be doing the same thing. Payroll will become a key sector for innovation. And applications will become more intuitive.

Mueller, an enterprise software expert, put Rippling on several of Constellation’s shortlists of vendors in 2024, including HCM suites with a North American focus, EOR, next-generation multi-country payroll vendors, and payroll for North American SMBs.
He’s correct in saying that Rippling will keep innovating in payroll. We’re planning to add new countries to our native payroll, expand our EOR availability, and introduce new features to improve the overall customer experience.
Rippling Payroll was built different from the start
Unlike our competitors, Rippling Payroll was built differently from the start, which helps us innovate fast for our customers. Most payroll systems struggle to handle everyday human complexities their systems weren’t specifically built to handle: things like a clawback on a signing bonus, or a one-off accommodation for a leave of absence. From the start, Rippling was built to handle the messy complexity that comes with the very human decision making that ultimately runs every business.
We did that by building all of our systems, including Payroll, on a data model that thinks about the relationships between people, roles, policies, and compliance like you do. We call this the employee graph, and it provides the foundation for Rippling and everything that’s built on top of it.
Since Rippling Payroll is built on a unified record of employee data, it eliminates data siloes, automates manual work and reduces the risk of human error. This results in easy-to-use reporting, streamlined workflows, and a flexible payroll system that can adapt to your company's needs, all based on one reliable source of employee data.
Rippling is designed to make running payroll for both your local and global workforce easy and intuitive. Our global payroll, EOR, and global contractor payments around the world use the same employee graph, so employers with teams distributed around the world work from a single source of truth for their global workforce. This is even more powerful for multi-national workforces, where payroll administrators need compliance guardrails for international payroll but want to create internal consistency.
Rippling is committed to continuous innovation
In 2024, Rippling launched over 100 new features, products, and enhancements, and we have no plans to slow down. We’re committed to continuously making it easier for our customers to run their business and ensure their staff is paid accurately, regardless of their location or employment status.
